i suddenly started getting alerts popping up on my computer saying spyware has been detected and that windows is making copies of my system info with a link to “download anti spyware software”. this is weird because a year ago i had a lot of spyware and was never alerted to it. and i do not have an anti virus that pops up when it detects something. so i dont want to click on the popups cause im afraid it will download something bad. im currently running spybot though. anyone know whats happening or experienced it?

Although I haven’t ever seen this particular example, it is probably spyware/malware or the unlikely possibility exists that it could be a virus. I would reccomend that you continue using spybot and also download antivir for virus protection.

It’s best to scan with several virus/spyware programs. There’s several online ones free that you can use. I like panda and bitdefender best because they’ve found the most viruses. Bitdefender is slower but supposedly high rated. Norton causes crashes on startup sometimes. AVG is a lemming that tells you where the virus is and doesnt really remove it. Adaware is best for removing spyware.
